What is a Feature Design Element in a room?

A feature design element in a room is the conversation starter. It’s the focal point. It will improve flow of movement. The focal point will improve flow of conversation. It can be a jaw dropping “WOW” or a subtle change of wall color. On some TV shows they might call it a “Feature Wall” or the Fireplace, a Picture Window, or an architectural feature. The focal point will start the conversation of how the room is used.

Many of our customers at Gigi’s Corner Shop have come in and asked for decorative items to enhance the feature design element in their room.

A focal point is created when there are supporting objects framing it.  The focal point is the beginning of your room renovation. From there you can think about color. Color provides the base and balance of the room. Color psychology teaches us that color is key in evoking emotions.

When you and/or your guests come into the room, how do you want them to feel? A Warm, Cozy, or Quiet feeling will require warm shades and subtle tones. A Modern, Game, or Nightlife feeling may use cooler colors and sharp contrasts. The color palette is considered the frame in which we tie all the elements together and present the FEATURE. Think of your room as a story or a song. There is a beginning, middle and end. You want your guests to see the beginning first (focal point) the middle (items supporting the focal point) and the end (a cohesive color palette).

Here in Caldwell, with our beautiful hills, creek, and wonderful architecture we can pull feature design elements from around us to present a sense of “place”. Natural wood warmth, solid stone strength, and colorful flora can be used to support the focal point.

Artisanal objects in our store are perfect to help enhance that sense of place. The rich textures, beautifully designed and highly crafted items will subtly tell the story of your community, the story of your life. What do you want your room to say?
